  1. Hi everyone, my name is Aron Abellera. I really like reading and writing, I like it a lot, I really do. What I like to do in my free time includes reading a plethora of articles, preferably sports, and updating myself with the news. In addition I love enjoying the sun even though it beats on me radiantly, and I love keeping myself entertained with professional baseball, basketball, and football. The plans I had for this summer were to not waste any time and I certainly attained my goal. I am taking AP Lit with the intention of improving my reading and writing and educating myself with a set of literature I wish to grow into. My favorite books include The Perks of Being Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and now The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. My absolute favorite series of all time though is Cirque Du Freak, childish, I know, but I loved reading that series from top to bottom and it is known as the pivoting point of my inspiration to read as a hobby. My life after high school involves applying and attending a four year university where I can pursue a career that will make me happy to be employed in the future. The most important event of my life is yet to be determined but I’ll figure it out soon enough!

  2. Hi fellow AP Lit students! My name is Serenity Reynolds I’m still somewhat new to Morse and San Diego, this is my second year here. In my spare time I really enjoy watching documentaries, eating and/or listening to music. I do not have a specific favorite book (sadly) but I will admit I am definitely addicted to Jackie Collins’ Santangelo series. I am a die-hard Santangelo fanatic! Total heart eyes for Gino…ANYWHO over the summer I went on a road trip touring different universities in hopes of narrowing my options (and getting more and more broke by the mile) I also worked a ton. As some of you may know, I have a family business so this summer we began building our restaurant (check us out at Liberty Station Nov. 1) I decided to take AP Lit because I really enjoy reading and I’m not just saying that to gain cool points either haha. Reading broadens my perspective of the world around me and seeing as though I am so incredibly anti it gives me the feeling of meeting new, foreign people. After high school I plan on going to a 4 year university and later on, becoming a nurse. I appreciate you if you read all of this , mwuah! Good luck this year!

  3. HI AP LIT! My name is Ericka Sioson. During my free time, I’m usually eating, sleeping, or out with my main squeeze, Victoria Fe. My summer was all about adventuring and staying out of the house as much as possible. I also worked at seaworld to financially support myself and my family. Anyways, I decided to take AP Lit because I wanted to further challenge myself in writing, critical reading, and coherent thinking. I believe that reading is an integral part of being educated. After high school, I want to attend a university of my choosing for a major that I still yet have to decide on. The most important event of my life was… nothing yet. But I’m hoping that it would be the day I end my bad habits of procrastination.

  4. Hello AP Literature friends!! My name is Matthew Gomez, hope your summer was very well and hope you crossed off everything on your summer to do list. I know I did! I love to spend most of my free time my family and friends, listening to music, and spending time practicing my work on the piano, guitar and mandolin. I spent most of my summer spending time with my family and friends, going out of town, reading books, and trying to get out of my comfort zone! I chose to take AP literature because I would like to advance my skills in reading and writing and challenge myself so that I’m a little more prepared for collage. I’ve read five books this past summer, my favorite book that I’ve read this summer would have to be “Into the Wind” by Jake Ducey. My favorite book of all time would have to be “The Lobster Coast” by Colin Woodard, this book goes into the rich history of the state of Maine and how it has gotten its beautiful culture that the people of the state live by today. I plan on going into a four year university after high school, I would like to major in architecture and design. The most important event in my life would have to be the time I first moved out of my home state, I was a young child when I first moved to the state of Maine. This move would forever impact my life and change the way I choose to live my life.

  5. Hey Team AP Lit! My name is Joy Langit, and I enrolled in this class to face a challenge and to help expand my literature skills. During my free time, I like to do activities that don’t involve getting a headache. In other words, I enjoy drawing, playing instruments, or just sleep, and I can promise you, I did these activities during my summer. However, this summer also planted the thought of a new chapter of high school. I honestly don’t know what plans I am willing to uphold, but all I know is that I want to study something that I actually enjoy, rather than listening to my parents as they pressure me to become a nurse just because it’s a high-paying job. With that being said, after high school, I just hope to do something that I will enjoy without any hesitation. Moving on, I must say that “The Joy Luck Club,” by Amy Tan, has become one of my favorite books. It taught me how to show more love towards my mom, because of their never ending care. And lastly, the most important event in my life so far is when I made my parents proud of getting a good grade on a test of a subject that I’m actually not good at. Actually, every time I make my parents proud creates another important event, whether I did something great or not haha. I just love seeing them smile to be honest. 🙂

  6. Hello AP-Lit classmates! My name is Mario Agsaulio and in my free time I like to go shopping, jam out in my room, and watch Japanese animations. Most of my summer I was at a program called Upward Bound where you can get ahead in credits for high school. I’m taking AP Lit because I wanted to expand my reading skills and challenge myself my last year of high school. My favorite books would have to be books that are parts of a series such as The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson, and The Immortal Instruments. After high school I want to go to a 4 year university but I don’t know what I want to major in yet so I’ll think about haha. The most important event in my life (at the moment) would have to be getting into Upward Bound because this program has meant so much to me these past 3 years and I’m really sad that I can’t go back. Upward Bound has not only given me new Experience to learn from but new friends that I will cherish forever.

  7. Hello AP Lit people. My name is Vincent Valero. In my free time, I often find myself using the time to either eat or sleep if I can’t find something on the internet to waste my time. Over the summer I played paintball pretty often, and I also traveled to Asia for the first time in years. My main reason for taking AP Lit is to challenge myself, but also to try and gain a larger interest in reading books in general. My favorite book is probably Fahrenheit 451, because it seems so unique compared to the other books that I’ve read. After high school, I see myself attending college and receiving a degree in something.

  8. Halluuu world! My name is Victoria Jacinto, I don’t believe in free time because time is money and you need to money to shop! I decided to take lit to enhance my views on literature and writing itself. After high school I would like to attend a four year university and major in kinesiology to become a physical therapist. My favorite book is Looking for Alaska by John Green. This summer I’ve been out of the house every single day, eating, shopping, and cruising around San Diego and Los Angeles with my best friend, Ericka. The most important event in my life thus far is when my two brothers joined the military and was station overseas which tough me how to be more independent.

  9. Hello AP Lit! My name is Joshua Mallari, some of you guys refer to me as just Mallari. Although I’m not the biggest book worm, I’ve decided to take lit to open new opportunities frequent book readers do, such as, better vocabulary and a whole lot of new perspectives. I love watching The Walking Dead on Netflix during my free time. My favorite book is The Maze Runner by James Dashner. After high school I plan on going to a four-year university where I can get a degree on biomedical engineering. The most important event of my life thus far is when I met the yin to my yang, my cousin Kate!

  10. Hello everyone! My name is Alex Florendo and I have decided to take upon Ap LIt to overcome the challenges that come with it. I’m mainly an independent individual yet I enjoy spending my free time with friends whenever I can. I’ve decided to make the most out of my summer and to avoid my home as much as possible as sometimes the comfort of being indoors just wasn’t enough. My plans for summer have already been accomplished as I was able to experience a one-time opportunity, for me, at camp and to explore the world outside of my usual comfort zones such as Seaworld, Del-mar Fair, and the beach. I don’t have a favorite book that stands out to me but the Joy Luck Club has been serving a good purpose for me. With high school coming closer to an end for the most of us, my plans after that will be continuing my education and to hopefully achieve the dream I want.

  11. Hi AP Lit class! My name is Ramila Abdul. I decided to take AP Lit because of one simple reason, I love reading literary fiction but I have trouble understanding the major messages in the novels i read. I am hoping that I will improve my critical reading and analysis by taking this class. When I get a moment of free time in my busy life, I like to read read literary fiction and self improvement books, my favorite books so far are How to Kill a Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, and George Orwell’s 1984. I also enjoy watching documentaries and youtube videos. During the summer, I volunteered as a tutor in a summer program for underprivileged children, participated in my asb activities. Then I went to a month long vacation to Vancouver, visiting my relatives. I am hoping to attend college after I graduate, currently i am trying my best to achieve my goals of getting accepted to a good college. Graduating high school would be an important event in my life, but i have some time before that event so i am currently looking forward to it.

  12. Hello I am Maylea, I like to go on adventures and shop in my free time. I’m always out just to be out. I go to Starbucks almost everyday. My plans for the summer was just to make the best out of my last high school summer. I did a lot of things that were on my bucket list. I took AP Lit to help me advance in my English and learn more on what there is. My favorite book is Paper Towns by John Green. I got to read it before the movie came out and I will always like the book better than the movie because of the details a book describes. My life after high school I’m hoping to get into a college in LA so I can move out of San Diego then hopefully when I finish my bachelors I can go to a college in the Bay area to get my masters. The most important event in my life is when my family took a road trip to get to Mount Rushmore. I went through so many different states and I saw so many things that California doesn’t have.

  13. I am Caitlyn Francisco and I’ve decided to take AP Lit to challenge myself in one of my favorite subjects, English. This summer I participated in a week long camp for ROTC. There I was able to experience several activities for the first time, such as fishing, canoeing, and archery. It was definitely an interesting experience; however, I wouldn’t say I would do it again just because I’m more of an indoors person. The rest of the summer was spent procrastinating on homework and hanging out with friends and family. I do not have a favorite book, but I did enjoy reading “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote last year in AP Lang. My plan after high school is to attend a four year college hopefully outside of San Diego.

I also went to Disneyland and California Adventure with my friends. Something memorable I did this summer is going to one of my favorite Korean Pop boy group’s concert. I’ve been an avid supporter ever since they debuted in 2013 and it was a dream come true to see them live. I love going to concerts because it’s a way for me to let my stress out and just have fun. The reason why I am taking AP Lit is because English is one of my favorite subject even though I find it challenging. I also believe it will prepare me for college and enhance my skills. I don’t really have a favorite book but I love genres like Historical Fiction. After high school, I’m going to college and I plan to study abroad for a semester. The most important event in my life would be being able to live with my mom after four years of being apart because she’s one of the most important people in my life.

  15. Yo AP Lit! I’m Angelicia Sagbigsal, but I prefer going by Angel since it’s way easier. I decided to take this rigorous course this year to enhance my reading and comprehension skills. I planned on improving these skills to further extend my knowledge of analyzing literature. During the summer, I played for National City softball which became a great experience for me since I got the opportunity to play with people that have been playing since they were toddlers. Where I, on the other hand, have been playing for three years. As intimidating as it seemed, I was still able to learn a lot from my coaches and teammates. On top of that, I worked more hours at John’s Incredible Pizza since I needed more money for hangouts and food. My goal was to save my money for college, but that didn’t go as planned. If you are looking for a great time and enjoy buffets, hit up John’s Incredible Pizza. Plus, our mascot isn’t a rat which makes it better. What I enjoy doing on my free time is hanging out with my friends and venturing out to places I’ve never been before. I enjoyed reading the Maze Runner series because I was fascinated with this dystopian science fiction which consisted of thrilling and nail biting suspenses. My plans after high school is to attend a CSU or a UC school, preferably one out of San Diego. I’m still torn between pursuing an engineering or a business major. Other than that, this basically sums up some of my summer as well as myself. See ya’ll next Tuesday!

  16. Hi everyone! My name is Mary Nacu and I spent most of my summer in the Philippines. During my staying, I had the chance to meet my old friends and relatives, visit historical places, eat the foods that I have been craving for a long time and of course, make good memories with my family. I also went to Hong Kong over the summer. What I like to do in my free time is visit my grandma and grandpa, talk to my best friend, and just watch movies. I am taking ap lit because I want to challenge myself. I don’t really have a favorite book because reading is not my thing, I would rather watch the movie instead of reading it. Having to consider that I have been taking advance English classes since freshmen year, I think that I am ready enough to take this class. After high school, I can see myself attending into a four year university or a community college and pursuing a certain degree which still remains undecided because there are a lot of profession that I want to pursue but I still can’t figure out which one will I stick to.

  17. Hello ap-LIT class! My name is Kyle Gratil and I decided to take this class because I wanted to challenge myself other than just chillin’ in some other classes and also the benefits I am going to get out of this class when I graduate high school, also the skills I’m going to learn, the tools I’m going to utilize when I attend college. This summer I hit the gym as often as I could before school start and I tried to be active as much as possible but let’s be real. When I have free time I go on reddit to kill time until I have something to do. My favorite book is definitely Papertowns, too bad the actress wasn’t that good when it comes to acting. After high school I’m going to college to become an electrical/computer engineer. The most important event(s) in my life are probably the holidays I spent with my family, when everyone was at ease.

  19. Hey AP Lit! I’m Kaitlyn Cruz-Pham and in my free time, I enjoy photography, visiting new places, and trying new foods. If I could, I’d spend the rest of my life traveling and being around new things but I have to figure out what I can do that will support that kind of lifestyle. I could pretend like I did a bunch of exciting things this summer but I really just spent majority of my summer in my bed, watching Netflix, and babysitting my little brothers and sisters. The most exciting thing I did was go to Universal Studios and Knott’s Berry Farm a couple weeks ago. The reason I’m taking AP Lit is that I actually want to try to do better this year and allow myself to prepare myself for college which I don’t feel like I would be prepared for otherwise. I’m not sure that I have a favorite book right now but the best books that I’ve read recently are “We All Looked Up” by Tommy Wallach and “The Fault In Our Stars” by John Green. I felt like they were both written in a way that was really relatable and actually make you reflect on your own life. After high school, I’m really not sure what I want to do. I’ll probably end up going to community to get my general education and then hopefully transfer from there. Lately I’ve been looking into engineering and architecture but I’m still just trying to figure out where I fit in best. I’m not really sure the most important event in my life has happened yet. Im not sure what its going to be, but I hope its the moment that I really feel like changes me and gives me clarity on what it is I’m supposed to do. Well thats a little bit about me, see you guys in a week!

  21. My name is Alan Deleon, born and raised here in San Diego. In my free time I tend to play video games or browse through social media. If not that, I would probably be running or playing soccer with friends. My plans for this summer are to improve my 5K running time hopefully, but it is very difficult, as well as to sharpen my foot work for soccer. I am taking AP lit primarily because it is an AP English class, but also because I do not always read on my free time, but when I do I usually become hooked on whatever novel I am reading and am intrigued at the various connections a novel can make. These connections make me wonder more about the social reaction that a novel has, which is another reason I am taking AP lit, to understand the reasoning and the thought behind many novels. Some of my favorite books consist of: Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peak by Roland Smith, and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. As for my life after high school, I hopefully plan on attending a university for a BA, but I’m unsure for what. The most important even in my life was probably when I got my dog, Coco. He will be turning 7 this year and is still very healthy. If you’re reading this, what’s good.

  22. My name is Justin Mendillo and when school starts the only free time I would probably get is in my dreams because I’ll be sleeping before and after school then when I wake up from my nap after school, I’ll do homework then sleep again. My plans for the summer were to get to know myself better and I did this by being alone most of the time but I didn’t succeed because I just stayed on the computer and on my phone all day every day. My favorite books are The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series by Heather Brewer, The Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan, The Magicians by Lev Grossman and The Maze Runner by James Dashner. After high school, I want to be a field medic in the army but my family won’t let me because they think I’ll die so if me joining the army doesn’t happen then I’ll be a corpsman in the navy. The most important event in my life was coming to America because it gave me opportunities I didn’t have before.

  23. Hello AP Lit classmates! My name is Charmhel(2nd h is silent). During my free time, I like to sing and play the guitar. I try to make my own songs and record them. I am very passionate about what I do because I am able to express whatever I feel and want. I also enjoy playing tennis. During summer I was able to go to COSMOS. It kept me busy and entertained because it gave me a preview on college life and I learned about music and technology. After COSMOS, I started conditioning for the tennis team. I am taking AP Lit because I wanted to take a challenging class, and I was not interested in taking any of the other English classes. The Series of Unfortunate Events was my favorite series as a child. My favorite book would be Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. After high school, I plan on attending a four year university and major in biology. The most important event that happened in my life as of right now would be attending COSMOS because I learned so much information that would be useful for me in the future.

  24. Hello AP Lit! My name is Matthew, I like to be called Matt but literally nobody calls me that. On my free time, I enjoy watching movies by Pixar, Paul Feig, Xavier Dolan, every film by Wes Anderson. My favorite movie is Atonement, and it makes me cry bathtubs every time I watch it, mostly because it is just so beautiful to the eye. I also enjoy learning French in my free time, because one day I’d like to visit Quebec, Marseille and Paris. So far this summer I’ve revamped my room, finally gotten my driver’s permit, saw a couple movies with friends and I’m currently on the way to getting hired for this student-worker internship with Human Resources. I have decided to take this course because I’ve desired increasing my skills on analyzing literature, and getting better in writing. My favorite book is Will Grayson, Will Grayson, a little novel by John Green and David Levithan. Now as for my life after high school, I’m not entirely sure about what path I’m going to take and how I’m going to get there. I honestly just want to keep a career or one or more jobs that pays the bills and pays for travel. But in all honesty, I’d probably just go to some community college and transfer after two years to pursue a life involving mathematics or something. But I can’t confirm that. I haven’t exactly found myself yet. I’ve read a lot of comments and seeing many people’s most important event in their life, I realize that mine isn’t even that important. So in other words I guess I have to wait for that. But if I have to say, it’d probably be when I get on a plane, because I’ve never done so before. And yeah, this is who I am. See you guys in a couple weeks!

  25. Hi APLit-ers, I’m Alain Demesa and what I like to do in my free time is either watch random YouTube videos, cook deserts, or take long naps. My plans over the summer were to get my homework done early, try to look for a job, start the whole driver’s license scenario, and find culinary opportunities to make myself stand out once it comes to college aps-time. I’m taking this class because I didn’t pass the APLang exam but I still want some college credit in English somehow. I also want to become a better reader in terms of analyzing more fictional texts and understanding what the author actually wants the reader to feel. The only book I’ve truly liked was Life of Pi because it was the first time I was eager to read ahead and know the ending. Life after high school at the moment is very confusing and tentative but I aim to go to a culinary school in either San Francisco or Los Angeles. Lastly, as of right now I don’t think I have a most important event in my life but if anything I’ll realize it this coming year.

I only have one favorite book called the Tao of Wu by RZA of the wu-tang clan, a hip hop group from the 90’s. For my free time I usually like to play video games and listen to music or go out with my friends. My plans for summer were just to play football and discover new places to go to, both have which worked out pretty well. I’m not 100% sure about what I want to do after high school, but I have a good idea and I think i’ll be fine. There hasn’t really been an important moment in my life I can recall considering I’m still young and have a lot longer to go, but that’s it about me peace.

  27. Hi AP Lit 2015-2016! If you don’t know me, my name is Leanne Caranza. I am taking this class because I need four years of an English class (not really my real reason). Haha, but, the reason why I chose AP Lit over all the other English classes that were offered was because when it comes to fictional text, I can analyze so much better than non-fiction text. I feel that I can do so much in this class and achieve so much in the long run. Like most stereotypical teenage girls, I love reading sappy love stories but I am also a big fan of mystery novels. Although I don’t read much, my favorite book, hands down, is The Great Gatsby. This summer, all I have been doing is going to dance team practice, which takes up my morning from 10AM to 2PM. Other than that, my summer has been bland. On my free time I absolutely love to sleep in! In addition, I love to practice the violin and study music. After high school, I hope I get into SDSU pursuing my later school career at the SDSU School of Music and Dance. I will be majoring in Music Education and I hope to become a music teacher, teaching higher middle school/high school orchestras. See you guys in September! (:

  28. Hi AP Lit. class, my name is Aila Soriano. I am taking this class because I want to challenge myself and I want to learn more about literature. Also, I know that this class would help me a lot in college. My favorite book would be “Their Eyes Were Watching God” because it affected me for some reason. I like any book that deals with history and that has drama and tense in it. I also like romantic books too. During the summer, I worked at Kaiser Permanente as an Intern. It was really a great experience for me to explore the medical field. The rest of my summer was spent with my family. We are also planning to go to Seaworld and Aquatica before the school starts. During my free time, I love to play with my baby. Especially now that he is more active and energetic. But when he is sleeping, I love to watch Untold stories of the E.R. or Bizarre E.R. It is very interesting to watch. The most important event in my life would be when my baby was born. Everything changed. I became very matured and responsible.. I learned that I can succeed more than I thought. I have experienced a lot of hard and unforgettable things that I do not think a teenager have experienced before. Those experience are worth it. Now I am happy and everything is okay. My greatest achievement would be ending my 11th grade with a GPA of 4.5. After high school, I want to go to either a state university or a community college. Along with that, I want to have a part time job as a phlebotomist. Someday, I want to become a Registered Nurse or a Pediatrician. I am looking forward in meeting everyone! Hope you guys are enjoying your summer.

  29. Hey y’all. As you can tell by my username, my name is Ashley Chan. I have been staring at my keyboard for quite some time now thinking about how to approach this introduction. Should I fall into the standard post by answering the successive questions? Or should I show some personality and interest? Conformity is pretty strong, boys and girls. I feel like I am on a dating website because of all the sugarcoated and general answers. Let’s be real, most of us stayed home this summer and have limited interests. I know majority of you succumbed to the comfort of your beds and watched Netflix instead of reading. Hey, I did the same on some days. Don’t get me wrong though, I am an avid supporter of the books!!! The whole aesthetic cafe and book scene is my type of thing. If you stop by Lestat’s Coffee House on Adams Avenue and take a closer look at me, I probably have my nose in a Stephen King novel or a Charles Bukowski collection rather than the summer assignment classic. I’m not a big fan of classics, which is partly why I want to take AP Lit. Answering like all my predecessors, I want to challenge myself to analyze and think critically through relatively difficult texts without wanting to throw myself off a cliff. When I am not freeloading on the floor of a Barnes and Noble, I like to go out with friends to places away from the jail cell I call home. Switching topics here, the most important event in my life so far would have to be the day Ms. Benedicto had her psychology class reflect on who they think they are. I realized three things: I did not really like the person I was at that time, I am still far from being the person I want to be, and the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. How do we forgive ourselves for all the things we do not become? I want to say that I have everything figured out and that I know exactly what I want to do after high school, but I honestly don’t even know what I’m doing tomorrow. So like the plot of your average coming-of-age novel, I want to find myself. To do that, I want to attend a private university out of San Diego. Got to leave the nest and give yourself room to grow, right?

  30. Hey guys I’m Laneiel Lumido but y’all can call me Lan because my name is pretty complicated at first glance. Why did I decide to take AP Lit. this year, you ask? Because I thought that I would fail my AP Lang. exam last year. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that I don’t have motivation or interest in taking the class! In fact, I quite enjoy reading the classics (if I have to). Just kidding! In actuality, I never back down from a challenge and this class is it. In my free time, I like to spend my parents’ money via shopping and food runs. Also, I enjoy playing instruments because I like jamming my stresses away. My favorite book is 1984 by George Orwell because it taught me the importance of not blindly following the crowd, 2+2 does not always equal 5. The most significant event in my life was the day I got my license (but not for my parents!). As for life after high school, besides going to a university outside of California, I am uncertain as to what I want to be and what I want to do. Let’s be real though, nobody has everything figured out and nobody should have to. However, I know that at the end of the day, whatever path I take will arrive at the destination I call success.

I honestly like and want to be challenged (but only recently realized that) and I feel like I need to improve my writing and reading skills. In my free time I like to have fun with friends and family, after a long day watch TV and relax, and most recently I like to workout. When it came to what I had planned for summer I wanted to do my homework early I also planed to take a trip to Arizona and mainly enjoy my free time, I did all of that except an early start on homework. As far as my plans after high school I don’t have much planned but I know I want to further my education and attend a university to study engineering/computer science but at this moment I am unsure of what i’m going to do.
